What does our guest share with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Walter Booker? Read on and find out…

Life in Music - Fabio Martinelli - Music Business Consulting - Music IndustryWe are very proud and excited to introduce you to a fantastic musical project and an incredible musician as well as a wonderful human being. Please meet Krishna Booker, co-founder of the band Eyedentity together with his wife Diana Purim.

Could you give us a bit of background of not only who you guys are and of your journey so far, but also on the “big why(s)” that pushed you to follow the path of music and creation?

I’m Krishna Booker, son of bassist, Walter Booker, godson of Herbie Hancock and nephew of Wayne Shorter – my wife is Diana Purim, daughter of Airto Moreira and Flora Purim. Before we were even born her parents came to the US and stayed with my parents. As you know her parents went on to be living legends. My dad and family too – we started hanging out when I was 5 years old and Diana was 3. Ever since then we’ve been inseparable to the point that we got married in 1998 after living together since 1992. We developed a musical relationship as well, composing and producing music for ourselves and sometimes for Flora and Airto – Eyedentity was born after being signed to a small label in England, and the rest is history!

How was it to grow up in such an amazing musical environment?

AWESOME!! Hard sometimes but the best learning experience and an overall outpouring of love and encouragement from them. They always helped us any way they could (all of them).

Tell us about your new project.

It’s a new record entitled “Echoes In The Universe”, an Urban Brazilian record with incredible music we wrote and produced and jam packed with special appearances by greats such as Herbie Hancock, the late George Duke, Airto Moreira, Justo Almario, Carlinhos Pandeiro De Ouro, Pete Lockett and many more incredibly talented musicians. We’re finished with the tracking and now are trying to secure the funds to mix and master the project. You can find more info and contribute if you want on this page: https://www.gofundme.com/eyedentityfund

This is what Herbie Hancock himself has to say to Krishna and Diana: “You are two wonderful and talented people who deserve support for your hard work creating great music for the world.”

So you are crowdfunding this – how has the experience been so far? Any tips to other fellow musicians considering this route?

So far the experience has been great and humbling. With the power of mostly our friends and family we were able to raise $4120 of $7000. The last little bit has been very tough because by now I’m sure we’ve really bothered the crap outta everybody so the last bit has been slower. The only advice we would have is: be optimistic, respectful and determined! And what ever you do, do not show people your political views on social media! That will surely lose you some donations that would otherwise have been a no-brainer for fans of music.

Where can people follow you along your journey from this day onwards?

Our website is www.eyedentitymusic.com (it’s being updated) and you can follow us on Facebook as well: https://www.facebook.com/EyedentityMusic/.

A question we like to ask all musicians we meet: what does a Life in Music mean to you?

It means what we’re living now. A life in music! Trying our best to inspire and uplift people with music that inspires and uplifts us. Without a cause there can be no effect. We must cause our desired effect.

Thank you so much Krishna, it’s been a tremendous pleaasure to host you on Life in Music.

You heard it from Krishna himself but let me underline the unique opportunity of backing such a project as the one he’s working on. The guests on such record are nothing short of breathtaking: Herbie Hancock, George Duke, Airto Moreira!
